Pântano do Sul keeps the pace of a fishing colony whose crews still head out at dawn. The beach, just over a kilometre long, opens to the south with calm rolling waves suitable for every age group. Historic on-the-sand restaurants — Bar do Arante among them — are part of the yearly tourist route. The trail linking Pântano do Sul to Praia da Lagoinha do Leste starts here and reaches one of the most photographed preserved beaches on the Santa Catarina coast. The housing stock concentrates on single-storey homes and three-storey sobrados, with generous lots and low verticality.
